The Process

Recruitment is a chance for both sides to learn

Recruitment should not feel like a sales pitch. Prospective members need time to see how brothers interact, understand the expectations of membership and decide whether Beta Delta fits the kind of Rutgers experience they want.

Current members are also making a decision. The chapter looks for students who will participate, respect other people, take responsibility and help make Beta Delta stronger for the classes that follow them.

Throughout the process, students should ask direct questions. The strongest fit comes from honest conversations about the time commitment, finances, new member education, housing, academics and chapter culture.

What to Expect

A process built around real interaction

Exact dates and events change by semester, but the purpose of each stage stays consistent.

01

Attend different events

Seeing the chapter in more than one setting gives you a more accurate picture than a single conversation.

02

Meet brothers across the chapter

Do not judge the organization based on one person. Speak with officers, younger members and older brothers.

03

Ask direct questions

Understand the expectations before making a commitment. Recruitment Directors are there to provide clear answers.

04

Decide thoughtfully

A fraternity should complement your academic and personal goals. Take enough time to consider the fit.

Chapter Momentum

Joining at an important point in Beta Delta’s history

Beta Delta reported record recruitment in both 2025 and 2026. That growth has been accompanied by stronger alumni involvement, expanded leadership opportunities and the establishment of a chapter home at 106 College Avenue.

In 2025, Zeta Beta Tau International recognized Beta Delta with the Edwin B. Meissner Award for Most Improved Chapter. For a prospective member, the chapter’s upward trajectory creates a genuine opportunity to contribute—not simply to join something established, but to help determine what it becomes next.

Common Questions

What prospective members usually want to know

These answers provide a starting point. Students should still ask questions directly during recruitment.

Do I need to know someone in the chapter?

No. Recruitment is designed to give students enough time to meet brothers from different pledge classes and learn about the chapter directly.

What happens at recruitment events?

Events vary, but the purpose is consistent: conversation. Prospective members should expect to meet brothers, visit the chapter and ask honest questions about membership.

What is the chapter looking for?

Beta Delta looks for students who will participate, take responsibility, treat other people well and add something positive to the chapter. There is no single personality type or background.

What should I ask about?

Ask about time commitments, new member education, dues, housing, academics and the everyday experience. A good recruitment process should give you enough information to make a thoughtful decision.
